Pattern importing
Hi, I get a lot of patterns that are in pdf format, as well as making me own in Illustrator .ai file.
It seems I cannot import them as .ai or .pdf, only as DXF, correct?
I have tried converting them into dxf with a free reformatter online, and when I use the Autocad viewer, the pattern shows up correctly and to size.
When I go to import this dxf file, it tells me that "it failed to load " the file.
Are there settings I need to have, some sort of size reference maybe?
I don't have a patternmaker on hand that can give me my patterns as dxf files, so I am wondering how this could be solver, since I am sure I am not the only one that might work like this?
I feel importing from pdf was enabled in the previous version maybe, I think I did it once before?
Hope you can help, thanks

Hi Astrid,
Illustrator can import and export AutoCAD DXF files.
Vstitcher, and most CAD software, can import AAMA/ASTM DXF files. Vstitcher can export AAMA DXF files.
There are other ways of translating the information if needed.
An AI file can be imported as pattern shapes. Below is my pattern in AI.
To open in VStitcher, go to file > new garment.
Next, choose "import" and select the AI file.
Closed shapes with a stroke applied will import as pattern pieces.
We can also export pattern pieces at full scale as PDF and import them to AI.
To do this, we choose file > print to file.
From the dropdown, choose PDF, vectors only. I recommend checking the box for Export All Pieces in a Single file.
Clicking export, you will be prompted to choose where to save the export. The export will save as a folder named after the first colorway of the file.
The export will include full-scale shapes of all pattern pieces. Open the "all-shapes" PDF in Illustrator to have all pattern shapes in one file.
Right-click, release clipping mask to work with the pattern shapes in AI.
Hope this is helpful and please let me know if you have any further questions,Zisie
