Excel Tech Pack Printing Tips

If you print the Excel version of the tech pack, for some of the worksheets you may find the content easier to follow if you ensure the column and row labels are repeated on every page. You may also want to set up your own page breaks.

Column and Row Labels

To format the worksheet output for labels:

  1. In Excel, open the worksheet you want to configure.

  2. On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Setup group, click Print Titles.

    Print Titles

The Page Setup dialog box is displayed with the Sheet tab selected.

    Sheet tab selected

  3. In Rows to repeat at top, type in the rows that contain the column labels. For example, to print column labels at the top of every page, type $1:$1.

  4. In Columns to repeat at left, type in the columns that contain the row labels. For example, to print the row labels of column A at the left side of every page, type $A:$A.

For both Rows to repeat at top and Columns to repeat at left, you can alternatively:

  1. Click the Click to select rows or columns button at the end of the data box and then select the rows or columns you want to use. (The button image may vary depending on the version of Excel you are using.)

  2. Click Enter to return to the Page Setup dialog box, then click OK.

Page Break

To insert a page break:

  1. In Excel, open the worksheet you want to configure.

    Breaks

    A menu is displayed.

  5. Click Insert Page Break. The page break is inserted.

Excel Tech Pack Known Limitations

The following are known limitations applicable to the Excel version of tech packs.

  • MacOS

If you print the Excel version of the tech pack, the page layout (portrait or landscape) of the currently selected sheet determines the page layout for all pages.

  • Windows

If you print the Excel version of the tech pack, the default printer margin settings may overrule the default tech pack margin settings of 0.2”. For best output, change the default printer margin settings accordingly.
