The 2D window displays pieces, stitches, and other shape related elements.
Navigating and Selecting in the 2D Window
You can navigate and select in the 2D window by:
Before using the mouse to select or move pieces:
On the Main toolbar, click Select.
On the Horizontal contextual menu, ensure Pieces is selected.
With that done, you can select and move pieces.
Select a piece - click on the piece.
Select the edge of a piece - click on the edge.
Select an internal line
On the Horizontal contextual menu, ensure Internal is selected.
Click on the line.
Move a piece - drag the piece.
Move all pieces - hold down the spacebar (or the mouse wheel button, or the middle button on a three button mouse) and drag the background.
You can also use the gizmo with the mouse to move, rotate, and resize pieces. For more information, refer to 2D Window Gizmo.
Zooming is contextual, so the focus of the zoom depends on where your cursor is.
Zoom in/out - two finger scroll up or down, or two finger pinch.
Move all pieces - hold down the spacebar and left click and drag the background.
You can use the 2D window toolbar to change the display and navigate, as detailed in the following table.
Click to hide the toolbar. To display the toolbar, click .
Note: If you have hidden the toolbar, you can also display it by going to the Main menu and clicking View, then Show 2D Toolbar.
Toggle to display or hide textures.
Toggle to display or hide stitches.
Toggle to display or hide grading for pieces.
Toggle to display or hide seam allowances.
Toggle to display or hide internal lines.
Toggle to display or hide changes to pieces. Changes are shown only from the point you toggle this option on,
Toggle to display or hide the name of pieces. If this option is off, the system ID of pieces still displays.
Toggle to display or hide the grain line.
Toggle to display or hide the background grid. You can configure the grid in Preferences.

Toggle to display or hide guideline rulers.

View all pieces.
Click the icon, then drag an area in the 2D window to zoom in to. (Marquee zoom.)
Configuring the 2D Window Display
In addition to using the 2D window toolbar options, you can further configure the 2D window display.
To configure the display:
On the Main menu, click View, then 2D Display. A menu is displayed.
Click to enable or disable the options as required.
Option If Enabled
Textures are displayed.
Stitches are always displayed.
Grading (if any) is displayed.
Seam allowances are displayed.
Internal lines are displayed.
When you make changes to a pattern piece, an outline of the original pattern piece - before the change - is displayed. Tip: It may be easier to view if you disable the display of textures. The following image shows how the feature works.
ID of certain elements is displayed, according to those chosen under Shape Options.
Grain line direction is displayed.
Background grid is displayed.
Grade Points Numbers
Grade point numbers are displayed.
Dimensions of pattern piece edges are displayed.
If enabled, certain guidelines are displayed, according to those chosen under Smart Guides Options. For more information, refer to Using Smart Guides.
Synchronizing the 2D Window Display
You can sync the 2D window so that it displays the pattern pieces in the same general layout as in arrange mode.
To sync with arrange mode using 2019 August Edition and newer:
Ensure the 2D window is displayed.
On the Main menu, click View, then Sync Layout. The available options are displayed.
Click By Arrange Mode. The pattern pieces are displayed in the 2D window to conform with the same general layout in arrange mode.
To sync with arrange mode using VStitcher 2019 April Edition and older:
Ensure the 2D window is displayed.
On the Main menu, click View, then click By Arrange Mode. he pattern pieces are displayed in the 2D window to conform with the same general layout in arrange mode.
