Smart Guides are guidelines that display in the 2D window when you are moving a piece or internal element - such as artwork, or an internal line.

With Smart Guides enabled, when moving an internal element, a magenta colored guideline displays showing the bounding box edge of the piece, or the horizontal or vertical center lines of the piece, when the internal element being moved comes close to it.
The following image shows the horizontal and vertical center lines of the piece being displayed, while moving the artwork.
The following image shows the left side bounding box edge of the piece being displayed, while moving the artwork.

With Smart Guides enabled, when moving a pattern piece, a magenta colored guideline displays showing the bounding box edge of a piece that the moving piece is coming close to.
The following image shows the top side bounding edge of the back piece being displayed, while moving the sleeve piece.
Enabling and Disabling Smart Guides
You can enable or disable all Smart Guides as preferred. You can also choose which elements should trigger Smart Guides. In other words, which elements when moved, cause Smart Guides to display.

Enabling or Disabling All Smart Guides
To enable or disable all Smart Guides:

On the Main menu, click View, then 2D Display.

To enable Smart Guides, ensure it is selected. If not selected, click Smart Guides.
Smart Guides is selected:

To disable Smart Guides, ensure the option is cleared. If not cleared, click Smart Guides.

Choosing the Smart Guides to Display
To choose the elements which, when moved, trigger Smart Guides:

If Smart Guides are not already enabled:

On the Main menu, click View, then 2D Display.

Click Smart Guides.
Smart Guides is selected, and therefore enabled:

Once Smart Guides are enabled, on the Main menu, click View, then 2D Display.

Click Smart Guides Options.

To enable Smart Guides for Internal Elements or Pieces, ensure the option is selected. If not selected, click the option.
For example, in the following image, Internal Elements and Pieces are selected.

To disable Smart Guides for Internal Elements or Pieces, ensure the option is cleared. If not cleared, click the option.
