You can choose the lighting you want in the 3D environment.
- In addition to the default HDRI lights, this version supports Parametric Lights, providing the ability to create custom lights which improve the overall look of the render output. Using Parametric Lights reduces dependency on HDRI which requires more computing power for Unreal. For further details see [→Parametric Lights].
- As of this version, all light settings will be saved in the BW file. Files created before this version do not include lighting information and use the last saved settings. This means that in some cases, when loading an old file, the snapshot will appear black since the lighting information is not saved. To correct this, load the default HDRI light and make sure the HDRI settings are set to zero.
To choose the lighting:
- On the Main menu, click 3D Environment, then select HDRI Lights > Edit HDRI Light. The HDRI lighting options appear in the Context view. You can also view the lighting options by right-clicking in the 3D window, then clicking Edit Lights.
- Edit the Exposure and Rotate Image settings as required.
- Select the lighting effect from the drop-down menu. To use your own HDRI file for lighting effect, you can select the Add new file option:
-
Click Add new file. A file explorer window is displayed.
- Navigate to where the lighting file is located, and select it.
- Click Open. The lighting file is loaded into the application and applied to the 3D environment.
-
-
Select the following options as required:
- Load Default HDRI: Allows reverting to the system default HDRI settings.
- Set as Default HDRI: Saves the currently defined HDRI settings as the new default.
-
Cast Shadow: Allows hiding or showing the default shadow that appears.
Note: Since the lighting setup is saved in the BW file, if Cast Shadow is turned off, next time you load the file and use only HDRI, no shadows will appear when rendering in realtime and VRay.
- Version 2023.2: If necessary, you can uncheck the Link HDRI to camera option. When enabled (the default setting), the object's shadow stays in the same place, relative to the light source, when the object is rotated. When HDRI is not linked to the camera, the light source follows the object's path of rotation, and the shadow follows the object.
Depending on the type of avatar you are using, you can configure certain avatar settings. For more information, refer to Introduction to Avatars.
From the Avatar option under 3D environment, you can choose different avatar looks, skin tones and poses.
