I'm having a problem with files missing materials after saving an reopening. So far the problem is happening on Macs using 2021.2.1

  • Hi Shelley,

This "invalid image" issue can occur when the file is corrupted during saving. This is most commonly associated with saving to an external location that is not the local computer. This includes such locations as a flash drive, external hard drive, google drive connection (or any other online storage) or a server.

When working in the software, it is best practice to save the files to your local computer while working on the file.

When working on a file that needs to be moved between computers, the following steps are recommended:
To move file from a computer to an external location:

    • Save file on local computer from within the software. Close the program and move the file from the computer to the external location.
    • Do not use "save as" to save the file to the external location from within the software.

To work on a file saved in external location:

    • Download, move, or copy the file from the external location to the computer. Open the software and open the file saved on the local computer.
    • Do not open the file from the software while it is saved in an external location.

Unfortunately we cannot recover materials that have already been lost. But we can replace the materials within the file. With the materials replaced and the corrupted materials deleted, we can re-load saved snapshots and continue on successfully in the file.

Please follow the steps below to replace the corrupted materials in your file:

Open the file and click “OK” through all of the error messages on the invalid image files:

At this point you may not be able to dress your avatar because your garment does not have a proper fabric applied to it. If you try to you might run into some issues:

If you want to keep all your stitching, placements, and snapshots what you will have to do is replace the textures of the materials. If you have a similar file with the same materials used, your best option would be to pull them directly from there. In that case, in your fabric section you can select “add fabric” from the drop-down menu:

Browse to select the .bw file, select all of the materials you want to bring in from it and click “OK”:

Once you have the materials brought it, select each one and drag to replace the corrupted ones. You should be all set from here!:

If you do not have a similar file to pull materials from, worry not because you do have other options. For example, if some of the materials lost are ones that you originally downloaded from the Browzwear library you can search and download them again:

You can drag the color chip from your “colors in use” on top of your recently downloaded material to easily recolor it:

Then once again you can drag and replace the corrupted material:

Or the other option is you can copy the textures over directly. In your colorways window, select the material and select “copy material”:

Then select the corrupted material and select “Textures only” under “Paste Material”. Now you have restored the textures for that material:

This method works really well if you have multiple colorways that need to be fixed. You can multi-select by holding control and paste the textures only:

Correcting artwork material works a little bit different. Select the corrupted artwork and then select the diffuse image from the context menu. Select the replace icon and browse to that artwork that you have saved on your computer:

Hope you find this useful to you! Please let us know if you have any further questions!

    Best,

    Afsha
