This style of seam appears the same on the outside as an open seam. To visualize the french seam from the outside of the garment, I would recommend using an open stitch construction.
If you would like to visualize the inside look of a french seam, I recommend assigning a customized shadow/ombre seam and a single needle seam grouped together. Viewing the garment with one piece hidden, the inside would look like this: Zooming in much closer, it would appear like this: To create a seam like this, I recommend creating an image similar to the below in Photoshop:
We can use this to represent the seam edges on the inside of the garment. Note, this could also be done with only one shadow and would put less highlight on the seams coming together for the original stitching.
When added as a seam in Vstitcher, we can customize the scale and distance from the edge until it is the width of our seam allowance. Grouping a single needle with the shadow, we can also set this seam's distance from the edge.
Last, we will need to hide the seam image from showing on the outside of the garment. Click the eye icon on the grouped material to hide the fabric. Note, on first hiding, the face and back will become transparent. Click again on the back eye to show the back of the image.
