3D simulation of garments in VStitcher uses a grid overlay to help with fabric physics and the drape of the garment on a body.

You can configure the grid height and width for each square of the grid on each piece. The more the number of points on the grid, the greater the detail shown in the simulation.

Adjusting the grid from the default can correct some simulation issues:

  • Where the avatar shows through the garment

  • Where another garment piece shows through the garment

  • Where the garment simulation is not true to life

It can take trial and error to adjust grid values to find the best grid size for a particular piece.

Note

Smaller pattern pieces generally benefit from smaller grids - shorter distance between points - as it allows more points for fabric physics to be applied to the pattern piece.

For more information, expand the following:

Viewing the Grid

To view the grid, on the Main toolbar, click Prepare.

The garment is displayed in the 3D window with the grid showing on each piece.

Adjusting the Grid

To adjust the grid:

  1. On the Main toolbar, click Select.

  2. On the Horizontal contextual menu, ensure Pieces is selected.

  3. In the 2D window, select a piece for which you want to adjust the grid. The Context view is displayed with Piece selected.

  4. In the Context view, go to the Draping Properties section, and to Details (Grid).

    • The number displayed is the space between each point in the grid.

    • By default, the Width and Height of the grid are dynamically linked so that a change in width is matched by a proportionate change in height, and the other way around. This is indicated by

      connected-icon.png

      .

    • If you want to set the Width and Height of the grid to different values, in Details (Grid), click

      connected-icon.png

      .

The link is removed. This is indicated by

      disconnected-h.png

. In addition, Width and Height are both displayed separately.

      To reinstate the link, click

      .

  5. Type in the value or values you want for Width and Height.

    Note

    • By default, all pieces start with a grid value of 1.

    • The larger the grid value, the fewer the number of points that are displayed on the piece.

    • The largest grid value is 2 and the smallest grid value is 0.2 - a grid value below 0.2 causes errors in garment simulation.

    • The grid value unit is either cm or inches depending on the unit of measurement selected in your preferences.

    • Changing the grid value causes the garment simulation to restart.

  6. Repeat steps 3-5 for each piece whose grid property you want to edit.

  7. Save your file.
