Autograding Internal Lines

Autograding Internal Lines

Autograde ungraded internal elements is an available option when you import a DXF file into VStitcher. This feature automatically grades ungraded internal lines by measuring the distance from the internal line to the nearest edge of the piece. It calculates this distance as a percentage of the width of the side being measured and puts the graded internal line the same relative distance from the edge of the graded piece.

For example, the following image represents a pattern piece:

Grading 30-15-15

  • The internal line is on the left side of the piece.

  • The left side is 30cm wide.

  • The internal line is 15cm from the left edge of the piece.

Since 50% of 30cm is 15cm, the internal line is at a point that is 50% of the width of the left side of the pattern piece.

The following image represents a graded size (smaller) of the previous pattern piece:

The autograding feature places the internal line at a point that is 50% (14cm) of the distance from the left edge of the piece, based on the following calculation:

  • The internal line is on the left side of the piece.

  • The left side is 28cm wide.

  • The internal line should be at a point that is 50% of the width of the left side of the piece

  • 50% of 28cm is 14cm.

Therefore, the internal line is 14cm from the left edge of the piece, as shown in the following image.

The following image shows both the standard piece and the graded piece.

Grading 30-28

In this case, the right edge moves 2cm to the right in the graded piece. The autograded internal line moves 1cm to the right in the graded piece, relative to the original internal line.

The following image represents another graded size of the pattern piece.

Grading 26-26

The autograding feature places the internal line at a point that is 50% (13cm) of the distance away from the left edge of the piece, based on the following calculation:.

  • The internal line is on the left side of the piece.

  • The left side is 26cm wide.

  • The internal line should be at a point that is 50% of the width of the left side of the piece

  • 50% of 26cm is 13cm.

Therefore, the internal line is 13cm from the left edge of the piece, as shown in the following image.

Grading 26-13

The following image shows the standard piece and both graded pieces.

Grading 30-28-26

In each case, the internal line is kept at 50% of the distance from the left edge.
