Exporting Spot and Pantone colors to PDF

How to export your PDFs from Print to File with Spot/Pantone colors

Overview

When you export to PDF (Vector Only), VStitcher now keeps Spot and Pantone colors as named Spot color separations instead of converting them to RGB or CMYK. This applies to colors from imported AI and SVG files and to Pantone or Spot colors you set inside VStitcher, so your PDFs are ready for production and supplier workflows.

Prerequisites

  • VStitcher 2026.3.0 or later

  • Vector artwork, trims, seam graphics or fabric graphics (AI or SVG) that use Spot or Pantone colors

How to export a PDF with Spot colors

  1. Apply a Pantone color from the VStitcher Pantone library, create a custom Spot color, or import an AI or SVG file that already uses Spot colors.

  2. Go to File → Print to File and choose PDF (Vector Only).

  3. Export the file.

To check the result, open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat (Output Preview) or Adobe Illustrator (Separations Preview). Each Spot color appears as its own plate.

How to update older vector resources

Files with AI or SVG resources imported in earlier versions may need an update for correct colors and export results.

  1. Open the file. If outdated resources are found, you'll see Outdated Vector Resources Detected.

  2. Click Update Resources (recommended). Or click Skip for Now, or select Don't show this again for this file.

To update a single resource later, go to the Materials panel, open the material's menu, and choose Update Vector Resource.

Note: VStitcher never updates resources without your confirmation.

Limitations

  • Spot color preservation applies only to File → Print to File → PDF (Vector Only).

  • Raster exports (such as PNG or JPG) and V-Ray renders are not supported.

  • VStitcher doesn't convert RGB colors to the nearest Pantone or map between Pantone books.

  • RGB and CMYK workflows work the same as before.
