Walk Pieces
The Walk Pieces option provides the ability to easily inspect the accuracy of multiple pattern pieces and edit pieces using the Selection and Fold tools, while still in Walk Mode. The tool also includes the option to skip segments and save piece alignment.
Walking Pieces by Point
Until Version 2024.2, it was only possible to walk one piece over another by point. This functionality is still available but is now also accessible via the Context View, and not only via the right-click menu as was the case till now. For a detailed description on this option see Starting the Walk Tool.
Walking Multiple Pieces by Edges
1. From the Main menu, select Tools > Walk Pieces.
2. Select the Walk by Edges option in the Context View.
3. Click Stationary to define the stationary edges. Select one or more edges you want to define as walked, in the order you want to walk them. Note that arrows appear to show the direction. The sum of the selected edges appears next to Length.
4. Click Walked to define the walked edges. Select one or more edges you want to define as walked, in the order you want to walk them. Note that arrows appear to show the direction. The sum of the selected edges appears next to Length.
5. Click Walk. The pieces are arranged. Zoom in to review the edges and tweak the pattern piece as necessary. You can:
- Use the Pivot Point to slide along the stationary piece. You can also click on the Pivot Point to return to the Walk Piece interface if the view changes. For more information of this tool, see Moving the Pivot Point.
- Switch between the different tools in the Context View.
- Use the right-click menu to insert a notch, mirror the walked piece, or select the point underneath.
6. When done, you can switch to another workspace or click Exit Walk Pieces. Note that edge selections are stored in the BW file. To keep the current rotation and position of pieces, you can select the Save Pieces Alignment option.
When viewing walked pieces in a very high zoom level, a discrepancy between the walked and stationary edges may be visible and the edges may appear misaligned. To re-align the pieces, release the yellow pivot point and click it again.
Selecting the Point Underneath
In Walk Mode, the Select Point Underneath option allows selecting an underlying point. This option is available when you right-click the pivot point and switches to the Point Context View.

Skipping Segments
When walking pieces, you can choose to skip one or more segments that should not be included in the walk action. This is useful, for example, to skip areas that include excess fabric on purpose.
To define a skipped segment:
1. While in the Walk by Edges view, define the stationary and walked edges and then walk the pieces.
2. Select the Skip Segment option. Then select on Stationary or on Walked to define on which piece the skipped segment will be.
3. Set the start position on the relevant edge. A message appears at the bottom of the screen guiding you to select the start and end positions. Note that the cursor changes to a yellow crosshair icon. A gray marker appears at the start and end positions; the selected segment appears in gray.
4. Walk the pieces again. The selected segment will not be included in the walk sequence.
Inserting a Notch
The Insert Notch option is available by right-clicking the pivot point or via the Context View. For details see Inserting Notches.
Mirror Walked Pieces
The Mirror Walked Pieces option is available by right-clicking the pivot point or via the Context View. For details see Mirroring.
Saving Piece Alignment
Click Save Current Pieces Alignment to save the walked rotation and piece positions, allowing you or another user to pick up where you left off next time you examine the pattern pieces.
Using this option will affect the 3D simulation and existing snapshots.
