Creating Garment Pieces
There are several ways to create garment pieces.
To copy an existing piece:

On the Main toolbar, click Select.

On the Horizontal contextual menu, ensure Pieces is selected.

In the 2D window, click the piece.

On the Main menu, click Edit, then Copy.

On the Main menu, click Edit, then Paste. A copy of the piece is pasted in to the 2D window.
You can, of course use keyboard shortcuts if you prefer.

Copy: Ctrl+C (Windows) Command+C (Mac)
-
Paste: Ctrl+V (Windows) Command+V (Mac)

Duplicate a pattern piece: Ctrl+D (Windows) Command+D (Mac)

If required, you can edit the piece.

To clone an existing piece:

On the Main toolbar, click Select.

On the Horizontal contextual menu, ensure Pieces is selected.

In the 2D window, right-click the piece. Menus are displayed.

Click Clone, then either:
-
Shape Only, if you want to clone the shape without stitches.
-
With Stitches, if you want to clone the shape with its stitches.
The cloned copy is displayed on top of the original piece.
If required, you can edit the piece.

In VStitcher, you can use the Pen tool to draw lines and shapes. A shape is made up of lines that connect and enclose a space.
To draw a piece:

On the Main toolbar, click Pen.

On the Horizontal contextual menu, ensure Pieces is selected.
To draw a straight line: |

You can insert an ellipse, circle, rectangle, or square shape as a separate pattern piece or an internal shape.
To insert a shape:

On the Main toolbar, click Insert.

On the Horizontal contextual menu, under Insert, click . A menu is displayed.

Do one of the following:
Note that while drawing a shape or internal lines, you may double click a previous point and you will have the ability to edit its curve with the pen tool still in action.
Draw an ellipse:

Click Ellipse.

Click in the 2D window, where you want the shape to be. A dialog box is displayed.
2023.2 and newer -
Click to link the width and height properties, and maintain the same proportions between them.

In Width and Height, type in the values you want.2023.2 and newer
In Width, Height, Radius and Sector, type in the values want. -
Click Insert. The ellipse is displayed in the 2D window.
2021.1 and older
-
Click Ellipse.
-
In the 2D window drag your mouse. The ellipse is displayed.
With the release of version 2023.2 you now have the ability to snap circles together using the center point, note also that when drawing a circle using the drag function, the circle is drawn from its center. These new features provide more capabilities and accuracy when working with ellipses and circles.
Draw a circle:
-
Click Ellipse.

Click in the 2D window, where you want the shape to be. A dialog box is displayed.
2023.2 and newer - Click to link the width and height properties, and maintain the same proportions between them.

In Width or Height, type in the values you want.
2023.2 and newer
In Width, Height, Radius, and Sector, type in the values you want. -
Click Insert. The circle is displayed in the 2D window.
2021.1 and older
-
Click Ellipse.
-
In the 2D window, press Shift and drag your mouse. The circle is displayed.
Draw a rectangle:
-
Click Rectangle.
-
Click in the 2D window, where you want the shape to be. A dialog box is displayed.

Click .
-
In Width and Height, type in the values you want.

Click Insert. The rectangle is displayed in the 2D window.
2021.1 and older
-
Click Rectangle.
-
In the 2D window, drag your mouse. The rectangle is displayed.
Draw a square:

Click Rectangle.
-
Click in the 2D window, where you want the shape to be. A dialog box is displayed.

In Width or Height, type in the value you want. So long as these properties are linked as shown by , any value for one is automatically duplicated in the other.

Click Insert. The square is displayed in the 2D window.
2021.1 and older
-
Click Rectangle.
-
In the 2D window, press Shift and drag your mouse. The square is displayed.
You can also insert a shape on the garment in the 3D window. Shapes inserted on a garment become internal lines of the piece. -
In addition, there are some piece actions which can help you create pieces.
