Legacy 3D Styling in VStitcher

To use the 3D styling tools, you first go to the 3D styling pane. When the pane is displayed, you can use the styling tools as required.

Viewing the 3D Styling Pane

To view the pane and the 3D styling tools:

On the Main toolbar, click .

The 3D styling pane and the 3D styling horizontal contextual menu are displayed.
In the 3D styling pane, click to expand the Advanced section.

The garment layers are displayed.

You can drag pieces to different layers.
Select any piece in a layer to enable the advanced configuration options at the bottom of the pane. For example, in the image above, selecting 8-25K-A3 [148] causes the Use in 3D and other options to be enabled.
Click . The Advanced menu is displayed.

Once you have dressed the avatar, and made 3D styling adjustments, if you click Prepare, this cancels all 3D styling. Instead, if you need to redress the avatar, click Dress, then Finish.

Using the 3D Styling Tools

To make 3D styling adjustments:

Click the tool you want to use: Pinch, Brush, or Erase.
Set the required radius. Either drag the slider, or type in the radius.
In the 3D window, use the tool.
In the 3D styling pane, in the 3D Styling Properties section, select the styling property you want to apply: Hold, Flatten, or Retouch.
If required, push or pull the affected area by selecting and dragging it.
Once you have finished styling, on the Main toolbar, click Dress.

The tools and properties are described in the following table:

Tool/Property	Description
Pinch	Use this tool to push or pull the selected point or area by dragging. Note: The size of the point selected matches the specified radius. This tool affects a point or area determined by the radius. For a freehand selection, use the Brush tool.
Brush	Use this tool to paint an area by dragging. Note: The size of the brush point matches the specified radius. This tool affects the area you paint over. For a more focused selection, use the Pinch tool.
Erase	Use this tool to erase previously applied 3D styling. Note: The size of the erase point matches the specified radius.
Radius	Determines the area the point of each tool affects.
Hold	The affected area does not move. Areas with this property are colored blue.
Flatten	The affected area is smoothed out (ironed). Areas with this property are colored orange.
Retouch	The affected area is stretched or shrunk according to the property values. Areas with this property are colored magenta. To shrink the area, drag the slider to the left, or type in a value less than 100. To stretch the area, drag the slider to the right, or type in a value greater than 100. By default, the retouch property is applied the same way to the width and length. To set separate properties for Width and Length, click . Width and Length properties are displayed separately. Note: The width and length follow the grain line. To see which direction width goes in, either click the blue circle on the Width slider or click inside the Width number field. A red line is displayed showing the direction of the width. To see which direction length goes in, either click the blue circle on the Length slider or click inside the Length number field. A blue line is displayed showing the direction of the length.

You can overlap 3D styling areas.

Selecting a Styled Area

You can select an area over which you have applied 3D styling and selected a property. For example, Pinch + Hold. Each such area displays a selector consisting of two connected, colored globes. One globe is displayed on each side of the garment.

The following image shows the selector for an area on a man’s short sleeved shirt. The avatar is hidden.

To select:

An area, click either globe. The globe displays in green to show it is selected.
Multiple areas, press Shift while clicking.

Note

As well as using either globe of the selector to select an area, you can also use it to push or pull the area.

Using the 3D Styling Horizontal Contextual Menu

The 3D styling tools horizontal contextual menu includes several options to help you with your styling, as detailed in the following table.

Option	Description
Save Snapshot	Click to save a snapshot. The Choose Snapshot Name dialog box is displayed. Type a name for the snapshot and click OK. The snapshot is saved. For more information, refer to Snapshots.
Fast Mode	Select to use fast mode when dressing the avatar. Fast mode uses a default grid of 1, and is useful for speeding up simulation of more complex garments. Fast mode was previously known as draft mode.
Freeze Pose	Select to freeze the avatar’s pose. For example, you can use this to prevent a collision between the avatar’s arms and the garment.
Auto Lock	While selected, you can add a new piece to the garment, and if you arrange the new piece on the avatar, when you click Dress the 3D simulation works on the new piece only, leaving the existing garment dressed on the avatar.
Gravity	Clear to have the 3D simulation ignore the effects of gravity. For example, you can use this if you want to prevent the garment or part of it from falling off the avatar.
3D Gizmo	Select to enable the 3D gizmo. The 3D gizmo is displayed when you make adjustments in the 3D window, giving you more flexibility in the direction of these adjustments. For more information, refer to 3D Gizmo.

Advanced Configuration Options

When using the 3D styling tools, if you select a layer or a pattern piece in the 3D styling pane, you can use the advanced configuration options.

Tip

You can select multiple layers simultaneously and set the advanced configuration options for all of them.

Option

Description

Use in 3D

Select to use the layer in the 3D simulation.

Resets the 3D simulation, with the selected layer displaying in prepare mode in the 3D window.

Lock

Select to lock the layer. Future 3D styling changes do not affect the layer.

Visible

Select to make the layer visible in the 3D simulation.

Stitches

Select to make the stitching effective in the 3D simulation.

Collision Type

Affects how the 3D simulation treats collisions between the edges of the same piece. For example, pieces collars and cuffs. Select Default or the appropriate value from the list.

Details (Grid)

The invisible underlying grid applied to the resolution of fabric display in 3D simulation. A value of 1 means a grid of 1 cm x 1 cm.

Note: The lower the scale, the slower the 3D simulation.

Tip

You can also set the Lock and Visible properties by clicking the appropriate icon in the layer.
