There are several ways to create garment pieces.

Copy an Existing Piece

To copy an existing piece:

  1. On the Main toolbar, click Select.

  2. On the Horizontal contextual menu, ensure Pieces is selected.

  3. In the 2D window, click the piece.

  4. On the Main menu, click Edit, then Copy.

  5. On the Main menu, click Edit, then Paste. A copy of the piece is pasted in to the 2D window.

    Tip

    You can, of course use keyboard shortcuts if you prefer.

    • Copy: Ctrl+C (Windows) Command+C (Mac)

    • Paste: Ctrl+V (Windows) Command+V (Mac)

    • Duplicate a pattern piece: Ctrl+D (Windows) Command+D (Mac)

    If required, you can edit the piece.

Clone an Existing Piece

To clone an existing piece:

  1. On the Main toolbar, click Select.

  2. On the Horizontal contextual menu, ensure Pieces is selected.

  3. In the 2D window, right-click the piece. Menus are displayed.

  4. Click Clone, then either:

    1. Shape Only, if you want to clone the shape without stitches.

    2. With Stitches, if you want to clone the shape with its stitches.

    The cloned copy is displayed on top of the original piece.

    If required, you can edit the piece.

Draw a Piece

In VStitcher, you can use the Pen tool to draw lines and shapes. A shape is made up of lines that connect and enclose a space.

Note

You can use the Pen tool in the 2D window and the 3D window. When drawing pieces, you use the 2D window.

To draw a piece:

  1. On the Main toolbar, click Pen.

  2. On the Horizontal contextual menu, ensure Pieces is selected.

To draw a straight line:

  1. In the 2D window, click to create the first point.

  2. Click to create the second point. A line is displayed.

    Note: Press Shift while drawing the line to restrict it to a multiple of 45°.

  3. Continue to click to add further straight lines.

To draw a curved line:

  1. In the 2D window, click to create the start of the curved line.

  2. Drag the mouse to set the base line for the curve. The more you drag, the deeper the curve.

  3. Stop clicking the left mouse button.

  4. Move the mouse to create the curve.

To draw a shape:

  1. Draw the lines to form your shape.

  2. Ensure you close the shape. To close the shape, hover on the last point until the cursor changes from

    , and click.

    If required, you can edit the piece.

Insert a Shape

You can insert an ellipse, circle, rectangle, or square shape as a separate pattern piece or an internal shape.
