If the garment is laying incorrectly on the avatar or having obvious simulation issues, ensure that all pattern pieces are arranged and clustered correctly on the avatar before simulation.
To adjust cluster placement:
On the Main toolbar, click Arrange.
In the Arrange window, select pieces to display the relevant cluster in the Context view.
Ensure that all pattern pieces are oriented correctly and in the correct cluster location.
Pattern pieces oriented incorrectly (for example, upside-down) can cause fit issues.
Placement in arrange mode does not reflect exact placement on the avatar in the 3D window. You use prepare mode for exact pattern piece placement.
In particular, ensure that:
Pattern pieces are placed so as to have the shortest distance to travel during simulation.
Pattern pieces on the same layer do not overlap on the same layer when arranged on the body. For overlapping pattern pieces, adjust 3D Layer values, or add a new cluster group and adjust placement in the 3D window.
Cluster types for each cluster are set so that pattern pieces are as close to their final shape as possible, and thus have the shortest distance to travel during simulation.
On the Main toolbar, click Prepare.Prepare mode removes all adjustments made with the 3D styling tools.
Ensure that the placement of the pattern pieces is oriented correctly on the avatar.
Adjust placement of pattern pieces in the 3D window, as required, by selecting the pattern pieces and using the 3D gizmo. Some cluster types only allow for adjustment with the 3D gizmo in certain directions. If necessary, adjust cluster types in arrange mode to change the amount of directions.
Ensure pattern pieces are placed entirely outside of the avatar. Pattern pieces that clip through body parts have issues simulating, or may become stuck within the body. This is most prevalent with sleeves getting caught on the avatar's hands and pant legs getting caught on the feet or in the ground.
If pieces are prepared within the body, adjust the cluster type in arrange mode, or adjust what cluster it is placed in.
If required, shrink or stretch sleeves in prepare mode:
In the 3D window, select the piece.
Drag the cube on the 3D gizmo.These adjustments do not change the 2D pattern pieces. Pieces adjust to their real shape when the simulation begins.
Ensure that pattern pieces are not placed too far away from the body. Pieces that are too far away may cause fit issues as the pattern pieces may have to stretch or warp as they move to stitch together when simulation starts.
Ensure that pattern pieces are not twisted around body parts before simulation. Reference the blue stitching lines to see if the pattern piece needs to be rotated. Stitch lines should be straight and cover the shortest distance between the two pieces. To rotate pattern pieces, in the 3D window, select the pattern piece, and use the 3D gizmo to adjust as needed.
Ensure that pattern piece placement is balanced and symmetrical across the body. Use a combination of arrange mode and the 3D gizmo to adjust the patterns.
Adjust 3D Layer values as needed. Layers with a higher value sit above layers with a lower value. Layer 0 sits closest to the body.
Once the adjustments have been made, on the Main toolbar, click Dress. If issues persists, check out the cluster arrangement tips, then repeat the preceding steps as necessary.
Here are some tips to help you achieve the right cluster placement:
When dressing pants, arrange pattern pieces on the Side Leg Cluster. The side clusters curve the pant legs around to CF and CB without colliding into each other or into the body. The Front & Back Leg Clusters wrap the pant leg from the inseam to the outseam, which may result in collision with the body and the other pant leg panels or other simulation issues.
When dressing a multi-panel hood over the head, arrange the pattern pieces on the Side Head Cluster with a Flat cluster type. The Flat cluster type allows the hood panels to be moved in all 3 dimensions, so the hood can be placed more accurately.
When dressing multiple garments on a single avatar, arrange the layers on the body with different 3D layer values related to their stacking order on the body, as well as in separate cluster groups.
When placing an under-arm gusset that may collide into the armpit, draw an internal line across the center of the gusset, apply a Soft fold, and have the gusset prepared at a 90 degree angle under the arm.
