Each sleeve piece has a seam allowance of 1cm on all sides. The seam allowance is displayed as an internal line 1cm inside each piece. Once we remove the seam allowance, we also need to delete this internal line.
The steps involved are:
Tip
You may find it easier if you spread the sleeve pieces a little further apart from one another in the 2D window.
To remove the seam allowance from the sleeve pieces:
-
On the Main toolbar, click Select.
-
In the 2D window, do a marquee selection of all the sleeve pieces. (Drag your mouse around the sleeve pattern pieces.)
The following image shows how you do a marquee selection of the sleeve pieces.
-
In the Context view, select Seam Allowance.
-
Type in -1, and press Enter. The seam allowance on all the sleeve pieces is removed.
Note
If your preferences are set to inches or millimeters, type instead -1cm.
The following image shows the removal of the seam allowance from the sleeve pieces.
Note
Note again the icon that displays below the pieces. This is to show that each piece is protected against further edits.
After removing the physical seam allowances, we need to delete the internal lines.
To delete the seam allowance internal lines:
-
Below each sleeve piece, click . A message is displayed.
-
On the message, click OK. The icon no longer displays and the piece is no longer protected.
-
On the Main toolbar, click Select.
-
On the Horizontal contextual menu, ensure Pieces is cleared and Internal is selected.
-
On each sleeve pattern piece:
-
Click on the internal line - it is displayed in red on the piece edges.
-
Click Delete. The internal line is deleted.
If done correctly, the piece edges now display in blue. To check this, on the Horizontal contextual menu, ensure Pieces is selected, then hover your mouse over the piece.
-
The following image shows the internal lines being deleted.
After removing the physical seam allowances, you can check that the digital seam allowances are still there.
To view the seam allowances:
-
Go to the 2D window toolbar.
-
Click . The seam allowance is displayed on each pattern piece.
Note
Reminder: the seam allowance displays in red because that was the color set in Preferences. For more information, see Preferences.
-
For the purposes of the tutorial, click so that the seam allowance no longer displays.
And that completes the removal of seam allowance from the sleeves.
Once you have removed the seam allowances from the sleeves, continue with Dealing With the Front and Back Pieces.
