You can simulate padding inside garments—such as bras, suits, or shoulder pads—to better visualize volume, silhouette, and support.

Traditionally, padding was created by assigning Puffy Physics to a pattern piece. With the new feature, you can define padding thickness directly on closed internal lines within the padding pattern, allowing for variable height in specific areas.

Add Padding with Internal Lines

  1. Create or select a pattern piece with Puffy Physics applied.

    • For best results, set the Puffy value above 500.

  2. Draw closed internal lines inside the pattern where padding thickness should vary.

  3. Select an internal line and open Simulation Properties.

  4. Enable the Padding option.

  5. Set thickness values:

  • Outside Height: thickness away from the avatar.

  • Inside Height: thickness towards the avatar (useful with Soft Body Avatars).

This setup supports nested internal lines, so you can design padding with multiple zones of different thickness.

Convert Internal Line into Pad

Instead of defining padding inside an existing piece, you can also create a new pad object directly from a closed internal line.

  1. Select a closed internal line inside a pattern piece.

  2. In the context view, go to Convert Internal Line To > Padding.

  3. A new pattern piece is generated in the shape of the internal line. It is:

    • Assigned Foam Physics automatically.

    • Finished with a sharp edge effect.

    • Stitched to the internal line it originated from.

    • Correctly layered, with symmetry and cluster assignment applied.

Manual Refinement: After converting to a pad, you can manipulate it like any other pattern piece in VStitcher.

This method works well for padding inserted into parts of a garment, like shoulder pads or removable bra cups.
