Licensed Avatar Protection

Updated this week

Vstitcher 2025.3 and newer

Browzwear supports secure, license-based encryption for avatars, enabling avatar providers to protect their intellectual property while allowing authorized clients to use licensed avatars seamlessly within VStitcher.

This capability ensures that only approved users can access and use licensed avatars, while allowing avatar providers to maintain full control over distribution and usage.

Overview

Licensed Avatar Protection introduces a secure encryption workflow for avatar files used in VStitcher.

  • Avatar files are encrypted by the avatar provider and distributed in a protected format.

  • Access is validated at runtime to ensure only authorized clients can use the avatar.

  • This approach enables trusted partners—such as Humanetics—to safely distribute licensed avatars while protecting their IP.

  • The system is scalable and designed to support additional avatar providers in the future.

Generic avatar encryption is available to all avatar suppliers who wish to integrate securely into the Browzwear ecosystem.

How Licensed Avatar Protection Works

Avatar Provider Workflow

  1. The avatar provider (e.g. Humanetics or another partner) encrypts their avatar .vsa files using the Browzwear encryption plugin.

  2. The encryption process generates a new file format: .evsa (encrypted VSA).

  3. The provider manages an authorization list that determines which clients are allowed to use the encrypted avatars.

Client Authorization Flow

  1. The client provides their DB-ID to the avatar provider.

  2. The avatar provider adds the client’s DB-ID to their authorized list.

  3. When an encrypted avatar (.evsa) is opened in VStitcher:

    • VStitcher verifies authorization with the avatar provider via the Cloud License (CL) proxy.

    • If authorization is confirmed, the avatar is decrypted and becomes available for use.

    • If authorization is not confirmed, access is denied.

Using Humanetics Avatars in VStitcher

Support for Humanetics encrypted avatars is included as an additional benefit of the Open Platform plan. Clients on the Open Platform plan can use Humanetics encrypted avatars in VStitcher, once authorization is complete.

What Clients Need to Do

To use encrypted avatars from Humanetics or another supported provider, clients must complete the following steps:

1. Provide Your DB-ID to the Avatar Provider

The DB-ID is used to authorize access to encrypted avatars.

You can find your DB-ID in one of the following ways:

  • In Cloud License (CL)

  • By contacting Browzwear Customer Support

  • By attempting to open an encrypted .evsa file in VStitcher

    • The access-denied message displays your DB-ID

Only DB-IDs explicitly approved by the avatar provider will be able to load the encrypted avatar in VStitcher.

2. Notify Browzwear

Once you have shared your DB-ID with the avatar provider, notify Browzwear so the required setup can be completed on our side.

After both:

  • The avatar provider has authorized your DB-ID, and

  • Browzwear has completed the necessary system setup,

you will be able to open and use encrypted avatar files (.evsa) in VStitcher.

Notes

  • Encrypted avatar files use the .evsa format and cannot be opened without authorization.

  • Licensed avatar protection is designed to ensure secure distribution while maintaining a smooth user experience.
