Replacing Internal Lines Between Patterns

VS.svg

The "Replace Internal Lines Between Patterns" feature in VStitcher allows users to swap or replace internal lines between different patterns or within the same pattern.

For users looking to replace entire pattern shapes while retaining their properties, please refer to our previous article: Replacing Pattern Pieces and Retaining Attributes.

This feature provides a fallback manual solution for replacing internal lines when the automated algorithm does not yield expected results or to manually replace internal lines individually between two patterns.

Key Benefits:

  • Flexible handling of unmatched internal lines.
  • Maintains critical line properties, ensuring correct positioning.
  • Can be used to replace internal lines across different pattern pieces or within the same pattern.

You can access this feature through the following paths:

  • 2D Resources: Open the Hamburger menu.
  • System Main Menu: Navigate to Edit → Replace Internal Lines.
  • Right-Click: On selected internal lines to access the "Replace Between Lines" option.

Scenarios and Processes

1. Replace Internal Lines by Center

Process:

  1. Select two internal lines in the 2D window from different pattern pieces.
  2. Right-click and choose "Replace Between Lines."
  3. The system will swap the selected lines, adjusting their position to be centered within the line bounding box.

Error Handling:

If invalid selections are made (e.g., selecting 1 or 3+ lines), the "Replace Between Lines" option will be greyed out.

Any irrelevant selections (points or other lines) are ignored during the action.

2. Replace Internal Lines Within the Same Piece

Process:

  1. Select two points on different internal lines within the same piece.
  2. Right-click and select "Replace Between Lines."
  3. The system swaps the lines, adjusting their position based on the anchor points you selected along the lines.

Error Handling:

  • Invalid selections (1 or 3+ lines) will disable the option, and irrelevant elements will be ignored.

Properties Transferred During Replacement

Updated Properties from the Destination Line:

  • Line curve.
  • Line length.
  • Grading.

Retained Properties from the Original Line:

  • Seam textures.
  • Stitches.
  • Edge elements such as zippers and trims.
  • Line properties: Display on 3D, symmetry, cut marks, shrink, puffy, iron lines, glue, inner slit, fold lines.

Important Notes:

When replacing between two internal lines, the point order might differ or even be reversed between the lines. Therefore, it’s important to verify and adjust any properties that depend on the internal line's direction, such as:

  • Stitches.
  • Stitch Construction
  • Edge assignable elements like zippers and seam textures.
