Creating Neon Fabrics with PBR
This section includes a couple of techniques for creating neon style fabrics using PBR functionality .
To achieve these images, the following settings were used:
Specular: 10
Roughness: 1
Specular Tint: 1
Sheen: 1
Sheen Tint: 1
Subsurface Color: red
Subsurface Intensity: 0.75
Lighting: Studio Soft
The subsurface channel is useful in obtaining a reflection that is a different color from the diffuse channel. In the images above, the color red was assigned to the subsurface channel and the reflections made more prominent using both sheen and sheen tint.
To achieve these images, the following settings were used:
Specular: 10
Roughness: 1
Specular Tint: 1
Sheen: 0
Sheen Tint: 0
Subsurface Color: white
Subsurface Intensity: 0
Lighting: Streets
The specular value should normally range from 0 to 1, but we extended the range up to 10. This was done partly to achieve backward compatibility with garments prepared in software versions before 2019 April Edition (without PBR). The extended range also can be used, as in the images above, to create the self illumination effect required for neon colored fabrics.
