In VStitcher/Lotta, you can create a render when you have the finished simulation of a garment. Rendering, also known as image synthesis, is the computer generation of an image from a 2D or 3D model. The results are called a render. You can use a render for line sheets, presentations, fitting sessions, merchandising, and e-commerce.
There are render types, and render outputs.
Render type: how the render is built.
Render output: how the render is available to view.
Render Types
The available render types are:
Normal
The default selection. A quickly drawn, quality image of the garment as previewed in the 3D window. The integration of the Unreal engine enables very fast ray trace rendering and an improved 3D display that displays high quality shadows and reflections in real time.
Normal render (Unreal):
The Unreal Engine also supports real-time ray tracing on supported GPUs. If you have this option enabled, it will also enhance the quality of your normal renders:
Normal render (Unreal with Real-time Ray Trace)
With effect from version 2026.2 and onwards, the Unreal Engine also supports displacement (previously only available in V-Ray renders).
Normal render (Unreal with Real-time Ray Trace and Real-time displacement)
For more information about the 3D display with Unreal and the supported graphic cards, refer to Enhanced 3D Display with Unreal Engine.
Ray Trace
Photo realistic image of the garment. A high-quality ray trace rendering consumes considerable computing resources and uses a large amount of memory. The amount of time the rendering takes to complete depends on the amount of memory in the system and the level of detail required. Therefore, external cloud services are often used to generate ray trace renders.
V-Ray render:
Schematic
A basic black and white image of the garment, similar to a technical sketch, useful for efficiently communicating design features.
Schematic render:
The overall appearance of the fabric, drape lines, seamlines etc. can be configured to your liking through the Parametric Schematic Render settings.
Render Outputs
The available render outputs are:
Image
Images are 2D pictures of the simulated 3D garment. You can create a rendered image as normal, ray trace, or schematic.
For more information, refer to Rendering an Image.
Turntable
A turntable is an interactive pseudo-3D rendering which combines a series of renderings from different angles. A turntable is useful for showing different angles of a simulated 3D garment outside VStitcher or Lotta. You can create a rendered turntable as normal or ray trace. A turntable is produced as an HTML file or animated GIF.
For more information, refer to Rendering a Turntable.
V-Ray Real-Time Ray Trace Rendering
The integrated V-Ray engine allows you to generate ray trace rendering simultaneously in the application, while you make adjustments to your garment. For more information, refer to V-Ray Real-Time Ray Trace Rendering.
Render Preferences
The correct VStitcher render preferences are essential for good rendering operations. For more information, in Editing VStitcher Preferences, refer to Rendering.
Tip: Using a cloud based render service is highly recommended for ray tracing and renders of large images, and a large amount of images. If you do not have render credits available, contact your CSM or support for more information.
